About the EGSA
The UL Lafayette English Graduate Student Association (EGSA) aims to build camaraderie and opportunity between English graduate students and foster better lines of communication between the students and faculty. When students matriculate to our department, they automatically become members of our organization. In order to make the transition as smooth as possible, new students are assigned a mentor an advanced level graduate student to help guide them through their first year. One of our main objectives is to help students professionalize themselves. We facilitate this by providing several workshops (C.V. writing, job market training) for students, sponsoring a graduate student symposium once a semester, and maintaining a display case in which graduate student publications are housed. We also hold more specialized meetings aimed at addressing concerns specific to the UL Lafayette English M.A. and Ph.D. requirements, like comprehensive exam workshops and pedagogical feedback sessions. Furthermore, we organize several recreational events each semester, such as softball games, pool parties, and Friday evening dinners, which we hope strengthens our community. EGSA also provides a forum through which graduate students can voice their questions and concerns to faculty about leadership and program structure in an open and accommodating environment.  We anticipate that opening lines of communication will help students better understand faculty decisions and, conversely, faculty better understand and address students' concerns.
EGSA meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month in the faculty lounge (HLG 315). All English graduate students and faculty are invited to attend. For more information and updates, please visit our Facebook page or contact one of the representatives.
