Two examples of how Writing Center tutoring has helped two UL-Lafayette students:

The Writing Center is a very useful place for students to receive help in their writing mechanics and usage. When I had to retake the CAAP Exam, I went to the writing center for some tutoring. During my first tutoring session, my instructor, Mr. Rockwell, had me read magazine articles and write letters to the editor of the magazine discussing how I felt about the articles. By reading the articles and writing the reviews, I was able to score much higher on the essay portion of the CAAP exam. The writing center also provides different types of English books. The one that helped me the most was the grammar and mechanics usage. Thanks to the Writing Center, I am proud to say that I am in upper division.

When I first came to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the fall of 1999, I was enrolled in English 90. My SAT score was not high enough for me to go straight into English 101. Mrs. Fourcade was my English 90 teacher and she changed the way I felt about writing. Mrs. Fourcade first introduced me to the Writing Center. Every Tuesday, two tutors would come to class and help out our teacher. Ms. Harvey, a tutor, introduced me to a book about how to put your thoughts on paper in the correct form. This book gave me a new perspective on writing. I enjoy writing so much now that I plan to minor in English. I do not know what my current English status would be right now if it had not been for Ms. Harvey and the Writing Center.

    Thank You
