Mr Spock always gets stuck in Aisle 13 – Cereal and Breakfast Items

by Kris Bigalk

First, there is the choice of grain:
corn, wheat, rice, oats, quinoa, bran, a combination?
Then, the shape:
clusters, cubes, circles, octagons, squares, orbs, flakes, or grit?
Then, the flavor:
sweet, vanilla, frosted, chocolate, berry, honey, or nut?
Then the texture:
puffed, dense, crumbly, crisp, soft, or crunchy?

of your choices are, to have no cravings
or habits to guide you,
to know that this choice
will make no difference to anyone
and still, he paces the rows of boxes,
finger tapping lip, one eyebrow
arched, stomach grumbling.
